Medical Marijuana Regulations Colorado Getting too Tight

In Colorado, Laws and regulations on medical marijuana are tighter than ever, forcing many dispensary owners out of business. While the use of marijuana is legal in Colorado for registered medical marijuana patients, some of the strictest marijuana regulations and laws in the U.S. are currently in place in Colorado, not allowing much room for growth in the state's medicinal marijuana industry. Recently, Colorado officials announced medical marijuana account holders were losing their only existing partner in banking, The Colorado Springs State Bank. Colorado Medical Marijuana Sales Tax Sees December Decline

Colorado medical marijuana related sales taxes saw a decline in December of 2010, despite being up by over 450% since 2009. Surprising to many, medical marijuana sales tax in Colorado ended on a down note.  Colorado Springs' city government, for instance, took in only $52,052 this December, compared to the $56,782 that the city government of Colorado Springs collected from medical marijuana related taxes in November.  This marks a decrease of $4,730 in medical marijuana related tax revenue for the city of Colorado Springs, the largest month-to-month decrease experienced in 2010. Nevertheless, the city government of Colorado Springs did manage to generate a considerable sum of  through the taxation of Colorado medical marijuana dispensaries, doctor referral agencies, cultivators, patients and other medical marijuana related businesses and purchases.  Such taxation of  medical marijuana in Colorado Springs earned the city government $488,382.  This is over 450% more than the 200

Illinois Medical Marijuana Bill Falls Four Votes Short of Passage

Originally reported by Hannah Hess SPRINGFIELD, Ill. :: Authorization, or decriminalization, of marijuana use for medicinal purposes was shot down by a slim margin Thursday by the Illinois House.  Falling only four votes from passage, the long anticipated legalization of medical marijuana in Illinois was rejected.  Supporters of Illinois medical marijuana, though disappointed are already preparing for the next battle. Passage of the bill would have followed the trend of State governments decriminalizing the use of marijuana for medicinal use in order to alleviate individuals suffering from chronic   pain or nausea caused by certain debilitating conditions.  Instead, the Illinois House on Thursday created additional roadblocks to progress in addressing the emerging and legitimate business of medical marijuana.
