Passage of 64 Legalizes Recreational Marijuana Use for Coloradans

Colorado Legalizes Marijuana For Recreational Use Tuesday, Nov 6th 2012 was a fascinating day for the people of Colorado. The second attempt at lifting the prohibition on marijuana across the state did not just taste success but set a precedent in the US. Amendment 64 legalizes marijuana for recreational use by adults aged 21 and above. Governor of Colorado, John Hickenlooper had been opposing the move but given what the huge majority of Colorado that voted in favor of marijuana legalization, the state or any such authorities have very little to oppose now. This is not the first time that Colorado had sought to lift the prohibition since in 2006 there was an initiative to remove penalties for the possession of marijuana. The attempt failed back then but what’s even better this time around is that it just doesn’t delve into the penalties but regulates the cultivation and retail sale of marijuana. Colorado becomes the first state with such an initiative in the US and the repercussion

Washington & Colorado’s vote to legalize marijuana...but elsewhere in America

Yesterday, I wrote about the results of six statewide marijuana initiatives, including the historic news that Washington and Colorado’s voters made marijuana legal under state law . But those statewide victories weren’t the only defeats our country’s failed marijuana policies were dealt on Election Day. I have more good news to share. In Michigan, voters overwhelmingly approved all four citywide measures to stop arresting marijuana users. Grand Rapids voters replaced possible jail time for simple possession of marijuana with a fine. In Detroit and Flint, voters removed local criminal penalties for marijuana possession. In Ypsilanti, marijuana possession will now be the lowest law enforcement priority. While in Massachusetts voters were legalizing medical marijuana statewide, voters in six state legislative districts representing 45 towns and cities approved Public Policy Questions calling for even broader reform. Two of the measures called for Congress to repeal federal marijuana

Colorado Votes to Pass A64 & Good Med Extends Sale

Colorado Votes to Pass A64: What Happens Next? Colorado has made cannabis history... again.  Now what?  Sometime in the next 60 days, the Governor will to certify the election results, making Amendment 64 law.  Until certification occurs, it is not law. A64 states that adults 21+ can start growing up to 6 cannabis plants (3 mature) for personal consumption, and possess up to 1 oz. of cannabis (which is a reduction from the 2 oz. limit for medical patients).  It will be ILLEGAL to sell or receive any remuneration, but other details remain uncertain.  Some attorneys are recommending the public exercise extreme caution until the state positions are clarified.  As Gov. Hickenlooper indicated in today's Denver Post , "The voters have spoken and we have to respect their will. This will be a complicated process, but we intend to follow through. That said, federal law still says marijuana is an illegal drug so don't break out the Cheetos or gold fish too

Colorado Political Battles over Legal Marijuana Use Intensifies

The debate over whether marijuana is medicinally beneficial is not new. In November, Colorado voters will decide whether the legal right to use marijuana should be extended beyond medical patients, as is the limitations set by current laws, to be freely used by those who simply enjoy it as for recreational high. Many feel that Amendment 64 – which would put marijuana on a legal playing field with alcohol – to be a dishonor to those who require the plant for debilitating conditions. “We still have a lot of work to do just within medical marijuana,” said James Laws, assistant manager of Good Chemistry, an MMJ dispensary on Colfax Avenue. “So I think that maybe 64 is just too much too soon.” Laws moved to Colorado from Nashville in 2010, following the suggestion of a hometown friend who had a career as a cannabis cultivator. After enduring a long struggle in Nashville to get his partner access to medicinal cannabis – as treatment for his terminal bout with AIDS – Laws has first-han
